SweetArt, a bakery and breakfast/lunch spot located in the Shaw Neighborhood, is one of the many popular local vegan/vegetarian restaurants in South City. Chef Reine’s work in the kitchen is a reflection of her heritage and an undeniable love that makes her food magical.

If you’re looking for delicious, filling meatless meals, look no further! SweetArt has a strictly vegan and vegetarian menu. You can grab one of their house-made burgers like the Make It Funky Burger or one of their numerous wraps or bowls – all of which are named after famous Black Women writers. With the array of veggies used in their meals, you can rest assured that SweetArt works to source locally grown produce. They have an ongoing partnership with Bohlen Family Farms where they get their seasonal items. Also, when you come in for breakfast, you can grab a vegan Big Momma Cinnamon Roll with your locally sourced Mississippi Mud Coffee.

As you might imagine, their sustainability efforts go beyond the kitchen. SweetArt reduces water waste by not offering any bottled water and keeping a self-serve water pitcher available for customers. They work to reduce their energy use by programming their thermostats and affixing their dining area with ceiling fans. And let’s not forget their to-go materials which consist of post-consumer boxes, recyclable cupcake trays, and compostable containers.

The Love & Magic that can be found in many of SweetArt’s recipes flows over into their work in the community. Chef Reine partners with Big Brothers Big Sisters by donating a portion of her proceeds during her events at their space Anew. She also offers vegan community cooking classes to show that veganism is reasonable and affordable. In addition, SweetArt does its best to donate whenever they can which includes donating to organizations like Operation Food Search.

During your next visit, you can grab some food, check out (and even buy) some of the amazing artwork by Cbabi Bayoc and enjoy all that Love & Magic!
