Mission Taco Joint brings West Coast inspired Mexican food to historic Soulard, located just a few short blocks from the Soulard Farmers’ Market. Their masa is made from regional, non-GMO corn, which is ground on volcanic stones and used to make their tortillas in-house.
Their building was once a fire station – or maybe a warehouse? They aren’t completely sure which, but the structure has beautiful historic touches throughout that give Mission Taco Joint tons of charm while avoiding the environmental costs associated with building a new structure from scratch. They’ve repurposed more than the building – Mission Taco Joint uses reclaimed wood in their décor, from their tables to their indoor cantina.
All of Mission’s locations made a splash in 2018 by moving to a straws-on-request-only policy, transitioning to compostable straws for when customers ask for them, and only serving water on request! This has dramatically reduced their single-use plastic waste and reduced water waste, since an average of 6 oz. of water is wasted per customer when water is automatically served.
Their drink selections always feature local breweries, including Urban Chestnut and 4 Hands, as well as local spirits from J Reiger vodka and 4 Hands gin. They offer a menu for vegetarians, vegans, and gluten-free customers – everyone can enjoy a meal at Mission!
Make it your mission to have a homemade churro, a taco, and a local beer after your next visit to the Soulard Farmer’s Market or Cardinals game!
