4 HANDS BREWERY, located in a repurposed warehouse building in downtown St. Louis, has partnered with GDA certified Peacemaker Lobster & Crab and Sidney Street Café to serve some of the best food in town alongside their lovingly crafted, local beers. Their partnership with Peacemaker and Sidney Street provides more than wonderful food at their tasting room – it is an alliance with like-minded businesses that deeply care about the products they serve and the community they call home.

The menu at the tasting room includes produce from Sidney Street’s urban farm and local tomatoes (available year-round, thanks to an urban farm with a greenhouse), pasture-raised chicken from Amish farms, and local and pasture-raised eggs! Using pasture-raised animal products is important, as this practice ensures that animals are treated with humane practices while lowering the environmental impact of raising livestock. All of the bread – from warm pretzels to brioche – comes from Companion Bakery.

4 Hands donates their spent grain to local farmers, keeping organic material from going to the landfill. Water is never sold in single-use bottles – instead they have repurposed beer barrels as filling stations for reusable water bottles. There are never to-go packets of condiments at 4 Hands – they make their sauces and condiments in house or buy them in bulk to reduce single-use plastic waste.

The brewery takes care to conserve water by reclaiming hot water used in the brewing process for cleaning, saving energy and water while reducing the costs of running their operation. LEDs provide most of the light in the building, they maintain their kitchen and brewing equipment, and they have a white roof – all of which saves energy costs and reduces their carbon footprint.

4 Hands makes social sustainability a part of their business; a portion of every purchase of City Wide, one of their most popular beers, goes to a different non-profit every 3 months – nonprofits such as Love Bank Park on Cherokee Street have benefited from this generous program. Various collaborations with places like Sump Coffee, City Museum, and Strange Donuts foster a sense of civic community.

Stop in for a beer and a brat with some friends or co-workers and feel good about spending your money at companies that are committed to giving back to the communities they love.
