URBAN CHESTNUT in The Grove repurposed an old paper company warehouse, turning it into a world-class brewery and bierhall, achieving LEED Silver certification in the process!

Urban Chestnut provides a bike parking station inside, four EV charging stages, boasts all-LED lighting and Energy Star rated equipment, and solar panels line the rooftop for a renewable energy source. Additionally, they employ innovative water-conservation strategies to save money and water during the brewing process (steam is recaptured during the brewing process to help heat the brew water). They use Safer Choice dish soap, protecting their employees and ensuring fewer chemicals make their way into our water systems. They also use low-VOC (volatile organic compounds) paint and building materials when making renovations, preventing the off-gassing of toxic materials.

In 2022, UCBC was able to divert 1.3 million pounds of spent grains and hops to local farmers for animal feed!  This is important because organic material decomposes anaerobically in a landfill, creating methane gas – a greenhouse gas with over 80 times the warming potential of CO2. 

The kitchen focuses on local, seasonal, and responsibly sourced food whenever possible. Red meat is sourced from Kern, eggs and chicken are sourced when possible from Buttonwood Farms and veggies are sourced from What Chef’s Want, Double Star Farms, and Ozark Forest Mushrooms seasonally. They source bread from Companion and Bono and make their delicious handmade pizzas in house from scratch!

When you visit, sample the beers, taste the food, and take a self-guided tour of the brewery to see how they achieved their LEED certification. Don’t forget to bring your spent PakTech can carriers with you as UCBC-Grove is a TechPak collection site. Can carriers can be dropped off in the front entrance game room where they will either be reused or sent back to PakTech for recycling. These can not be recycled in single stream with your recycle hauler.
