GDA Rating:
Edibles & Essentials is a locally focused café and market in the St. Louis Hills neighborhood.
They reduce food waste by using as much as possible from every ingredient, like using bacon ends for quiche, making stocks from veggie scraps, and reimagining items from their café in their deli case for take-home food.
They always offer vegetarian options – at least seven are always on their rotating menu. Local soda from Excel and a great collection of local beers are always stocked in their coolers. They have an in-house pastry chef, so nearly all of their baked goods are prepared in-house. Most of their pasture-raised chicken and all of their pasture-raised eggs come from Buttonwood Farms, and their produce comes from local sources like Eat Here St. Louis, which helps support our local food system. Everything, including their ketchup, is made in-house, which reduces single-use plastic and packaging waste.
Edibles & Essentials is phasing in energy efficient lighting and equipment, including a more efficient split system for heating and cooling their shop! They don’t have any straws in house, they use compostable to-go boxes, and they’re phasing in compostable cutlery!
They are active with Ronald McDonald House, raising thousands of dollars for the organization, and participate in local food events like Operation Foodsearch’s Tomato Explosion, and EarthDance Farm’s Feast in the Field.
Edibles & Essentials is a must-visit restaurant and prepared foods market. Stop by to enjoy their carefully crafted food, their gorgeous patio, and local beverages!
