The Wolf Cafe was the 2022 St. Louis Earth Day Festival Food For Thought award winner! The Wolf is West County’s sustainable coffee, food, bar, and music oasis. They purchase compostable items that otherwise would be destined for the landfill, such as coffee cups and straws, and they compost all of their kitchen waste and customer leftovers. Composting reduces their greenhouse gas emissions by preventing organic material from decomposing in the landfill, where food releases methane as it decomposes. Through their recycling and composting effort, The Wolf is able to divert a stunning 97% of their waste from the landfill!

They make their own scones, chocolate cookies, bread, and more in-house. When these items don’t sell for the day, they enjoy their second life as delicious bread pudding, reducing the amount of food waste the restaurant creates.

The Wolf is extremely careful to purchase their ingredients and products from local and environmentally friendly vendors whenever they can. They source their pasture-raised red meats through Slagel Family Farm in Fairbury, IL and Patchwork Family Farms in Columbia, MO.  Their chicken and eggs come from Buttonwood Farms, and they make their own cold-press juices, which include lots of local produce from Eat Here St. Louis and Ole Tyme Produce during the growing season. The Wolf uses Windcrest Dairy and Rolling Lawns Farms and they have partnered with Dubuque Coffee. They also sell reusable mugs, and you can always bring in your own for a discounted refill. Bread and baked goods are sourced from Companion and Sugaree Baking Co.  Honey is sourced from Bee Sweet Honey and Beeing Pure Raw Honey. Even their hot sauces are local!

Craft beer on tap, wine, and spirits are also served, so you can drop in for coffee or sit down for dinner. Community is always a consideration at The Wolf Cafe, which serves as a meeting place, a spot for entertainment, and a supportive arm for their neighborhood.  Vegan and vegetarian diners will be delighted with a wide variety of options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

The Wolf is a unicorn in the region that must be seen to be believed. The interior is almost entirely furnished with repurposed material, including wood tables made from felled trees from the neighborhood! The rustic, crafty, DIY style speaks more to the Pacific Northwest than to West County, transporting customers off Manchester Road into a friendly, mellow, hang-out space that will surprise and delight anyone visiting for the first time. Be sure to check out the new downstairs taproom featuring house-made Jersey style pizzas!
