Schlafly Tap Room

Schlafly Tap Room, located in Midtown, has incorporated sustainability into the core values of its business. Nearly all of their to-go materials are compostable, avoiding the single-use plastic waste that typically comes with getting takeout food. They also compost all of their kitchen scraps and customer’s leftovers (what little is leftover), keeping organic material from emitting methane, an extremely potent greenhouse gas, and turning it back into useful soil.

They get a significant amount of their produce locally during the growing season, including sourcing tomatoes from the urban farm at Schlafly Bottleworks. The cheeses for their cheese boards come from Fox River, and nearly all of their bread comes from Companion. Obviously, the most hyper-local item on their menu is the incredible selection of their famous beers, which are all brewed in St. Louis.

Their menu includes something for everyone – even vegetarians and vegans, whose choices include a vindaloo curry and a house-made black bean burger.

Automatic faucets in their restrooms and efficiency toilets and urinals help conserve water, and their LED, motion-sensor lighting help conserve energy, reducing Schlafly’s carbon footprint. Better Life hand-soap, available for guests, and cleaning chemicals with Safer Choice certification helps to reduce the amount of harmful chemicals that enter our waterways.

Schlafly is a leader in social sustainability as well. They contribute to countless charities, participate in the annual St. Louis Earth Day festival, and give generous wellness opportunities to their employees, including discounted chiropractic appointments, flu shots, and free soups and salads to keep their staff happy and healthy.
