GUIDO’S PIZZIA & TAPAS is The Hill’s very first GDA-certified restaurant, and one of the most sustainable spots in the STL famous neighborhood.  Guido’s excels in energy conservation, composting, and waste reduction.

Guido’s composts all of their kitchen and customer food scraps, keeping methane out of the atmosphere and giving food waste a new life as healthy soil. They offer small plates, reducing customer food waste. They don’t give straws out automatically, and the straws they do have are compostable, avoiding single-use plastic waste.

Reducing single-use waste is important to Guido’s. They replaced the butter packets they used to serve with their bread with slices of butter, minimizing their plastic waste while saving money on costly disposables. They use paper bags for to-go orders instead of plastic bags, which cannot be recycled in single-stream bins.

Guido’s participates in Pure Power, supporting renewable energy. Nearly all of their lights are LEDs on dimmer switches, they have energy efficient equipment, and they have motion sensors to reduce energy use!

Guido’s is a participant in GiftAMeal, a program that markets restaurants while feeding the hungry in St. Louis. On the GiftAMeal app, each time someone takes a photo at a partner restaurant, a meal is provided to someone in need through Operation Food Search.

The space was beautifully renovated with upcycled barn wood and custom LED lighting, and their backyard is home to a huge backyard garden that supplies greens, herbs, tomatoes, and more to their kitchen. Drop in for a pitcher of sangria, a local beer or local spirits, Spanish tapas, or Hill-style thin crust pizza and toasted ravioli.
