If you’ve had any experience in the garden, you know that just because you can find peaches in the grocery store in December doesn’t mean peaches are actually in season during winter months. In fact, what makes grocery stores so amazing is that you can purchase nearly anything—whether it’s growing season for that fruit or vegetable or not.
But just because you an access something out of season doesn’t necessarily mean it’s better for you or better for the community. In fact, guiding your eating patterns to match the season is better for your health. If food has to travel shorter distances, it also has less chance of chemicals or other additives to preserve it. It may contain more good-for-you things such as antioxidants, too, in addition to requiring less fuel to move it from one place to another.
So what’s in season when, and how can you use that to guide you? This graphic, created by Zero Cater, can help.
