For Green Dining Alliance’s monthly Dine Out this month, the St. Louis Earth Day foodie community headed to Onesto Pizza & Trattoria in the Macklind District to show support of restaurants making sustainable choices. Based on the “Carrot Mob” or BUYcott model, monthly Dine Outs encourage community members to support a specific restaurant that has achieved GDA-certification on a specific night.
Over 25 people checked in with the Green Dining Alliance at Onesto on Thursday, July 3rd between 5:30-8:30pm. Everyone who checked in was entered to win a $25 gift certificate from another GDA-certified location – this month it was I Scream Cakes. Anyone who checked in or tagged the GDA on social media received an additional entry to the door prize drawing.
The next Dine Out on Thursday, August 7th is another opportunity to try a certified sustainable local restaurant, as well as show your support for green dining options in St. Louis. You can also get involved by volunteering to “host” a Dine Out Night – earn sweet Green Dining Alliance schwag by inviting your friends and promoting the Dine Out to your network. It’s a great platform for any dinner gathering – a family night out or work social. Read more about GDA Dine Out Nights. Jeanette Reynolds, host of July’s Dine Out, enjoyed trying Onesto’s pizza for the first time and highly recommends the wild mushroom.
A restaurant sustainability certification program of St. Louis Earth Day, the Green Dining Alliance works with restaurants to reduce their environmental impact and set goals for money-saving efficiencies. By considering all areas of operations, the program puts strong emphasis on reducing, recycling and composting restaurant waste, as well as sourcing sustainable food, to-go ware and cleaning supplies.
