SIDE PROJECT BREWING is the newest addition to the City of Maplewood’s Green Dining District restaurants and bars. Side Project is a brewery and beer hall located near the intersection of Manchester and Big Bend where you can grab a beer on tap or to-go. They add to the City of Maplewood’s efforts to decrease the environmental impact of their businesses.

While Side Project’s beer hall does not have the perk of composting on-site through Total Organics’ services offered by the City of Maplewood, they reduce their organic waste through other means. For instance, the brewery gives its used grains to a local farmer to be used as feed for its animals. This reduces the impact of the brewing process by giving another life to the brewing waste. They also work to reduce their waste in other ways. The old barrels are sold for those who want to use in home décor or event decorations.

As water is a key component in the brewing process, Side Project reduces the amount of water they use in other areas on the facility such as hand washing everything and affixing all of their sinks with aerators. They also work to have the best quality of water by testing it for heavy metals and using a carbon filter system. You can enjoy some of the filtered water at their cooling station where you can grab a cup or refill your reusable water bottle.

In addition, Side Project Brewing makes it their mission to be involved in the community. They donate to animal rescue shelters, Friends of Kids with Cancer, and American Cancer Society.
