Retreat Gastropub is a modern yet rustic American pub located in the Central West End bordering the Cortex Business District which has created a funding program covering the certification fee for any new GDA members.  The gastropub creates fresh food made from scratch, and offers an extensive list of local beers, wine, and unique craft cocktails in a warm and cozy atmosphere.

The smash burgers are a hit, but you can also find plenty of vegetarian and vegan options like the fried Brussels sprouts or yellow curry bowl. Retreat Gastropub handles food waste like a pro. Food scraps are used in vegetable stock, supplemented into loaded Mac & Cheese options, and the smoked salmon dip features unused salmon that the chef can’t cut for the seared salmon fillets. Any remaining leftovers at the end of the week go into the family meal for the staff on Tuesdays.  Any fresh squeezed juices from the bar that can no longer be used in cocktails get a new life for sauces and glazes in the kitchen.

Retreat has taken several clever steps in reducing plastic and single-use waste. They have an extensive and well-crafted bar menu which means there’s a lot of fresh squeezed citrus juices.  Leftover lemon juice is mixed with vinegar and repurposed as window cleaner. When customers request to-go cutlery they will get a set in a paper sleeve rather than the plastic wrapped packages.  They’ve removed plastic cups, except for the use of to-go drinks, and they have replaced plastic ramekins with paper soufflé cups for dine-in service. The staff uses reusable glassware for drinks or brings in their own reusable containers. The bar menu has been altered to include more drinks that don’t require straws, and when you do get a drink that has a straw, it will be one of their reusable bamboo straws. Retreat has also reduced the size of their paper menus and opted for menus made from recycled paper.  Old menus are repurposed as plate liners.

Come to Retreat Gastropub for happy hour, grab a couple of cocktails, or enjoy a 4-course dinner, and leave with memorable tastes and a full-service experience!
