Kaldi’s Coffee on Skinker, located caddy-corner to Washington University, is the go-to coffee spot for students, faculty, and neighborhood residents. They serve Kaldi’s unique “relationship coffees” that stress a high level of social and environmental sustainability between the growers and their product. They incentivize the purchase of their single-origin coffees by offering $2 off on Wednesdays, and they help to encourage the reduction of single-use waste by offering a 20¢ discount on coffee refills.

Kaldi’s on Skinker offers fresh nutritious food selections with seasonally changing menu items. They support the local economy by ordering their croissants, gooey butter cake, and flatbreads from Companion Bakery, and selling Fitz’s soda.

Kaldi’s is very veggie friendly; nearly all of their breakfast options are vegetarian. This reduces the heavy carbon footprint of red meat consumption in their establishment. They make their own vegan muffins in-house, and try to make an increasing amount of baked goods in their restaurant – a practice that saves on packaging waste and shipping emissions, as well as costs to the company.

When Kayak’s was bought by Kaldi’s in 2010, the decision was made to use the pre-existing interior, which feels like a lodge in the Pacific Northwest. The reuse of materials includes indoor furniture, patio furniture, and décor, significantly reducing the amount of materials destined for the landfill by avoiding unnecessary major construction and renovation.

Bring your own mug and enjoy their lovely patio, located next to the Skinker MetroLink stop, just a few walkable blocks from Forest Park!
