Crema Coffeehouse is a new addition to the Debaliviere neighborhood just north of beautiful Forest Park. Conveniently located at the busy corner of Union Blvd. and Pershing Ave. Crema is easily accessible by bike or public transit and within walking distance of Forest Park. Owner Michelle Harris wanted to share her love for the small, community coffeeshop, where neighbors can comfortably hang out, study or work in a laid-back atmosphere.

The bright, welcoming space is also pet-friendly, so ask for a pup cup for your furry friend! Lively oil paintings from a local artist cover the walls. Crema reused seating and equipment from local restaurants and the space features woodwork from a local carpenter.

Crema’s coffee sourcing is excellent, among the best of any coffeeshop in the area. They use only 100% USDA Organic, Fair Trade and Direct Trade beans from Bongo Java Roasting Company in Nashville. Every cup of espresso, drip or cold brew comes from beans harvested by small-scale farms in South America. Bongo’s growers are paid above the typical Fair Trade rate. Crema also offers tea from local Big Heart Tea Company, which also sources from small farms and uses USDA Organic herbs. Check Crema’s website or social media for special afternoon tea parties on the weekends. The sustainable coffee beans and teas are available for purchase as well.

In addition to coffee, Crema offers a breakfast and lunch menu (with vegan and vegetarian options) and made-from-scratch pastries, cookies, muffins and biscuits. Enjoy a quick lunch or breakfast on their patio in the warmer months.

Overall, Crema earns high marks for composting food waste, being vigilant about food waste and limiting leftovers (any extras go to Operation Food Search), excellent coffee and tea sourcing, an efficient electric kitchen, collaborations with local organizations, artists and businesses, and general awareness and commitment to sustainability in every decision.
