Bagel Union, an offshoot of Union Loafers bakery, opened to huge demand and lines around the block in January 2023. They still do brisk business, but there’s no need to wait out in the elements anymore to get your hands on their baked and boiled New York style bagels.

Bagel Union has excellent sourcing: they use high quality unbleached flour for the bagels, eggs, chicken and beef from Missouri farmers and plenty of locally-grown seasonal fruit, vegetables and dairy. Vegan and gluten-free options are available.

Bagel Union does a great job of minimizing food waste. Staff is wary of making a surplus but any extras are made into delicious baked bagel chips or given to the community. Their pre-order system ensures little overstock, and the team practices a rigorous first in first out inventory system.

Most everything is packed to go in compostable or recyclable containers. Customers can take home their favorite cream cheese schmears, chicken salad or hummus at the deli counter. Grab a drink from St Louis Juice Press or Sump coffee to go or try their delicious fresh-brewed vanilla latte. And don’t forget the Matzo ball soup. 

Bagel Union’s ethos of sustainability is baked into each bagel. Check them out in Webster Groves Wednesday through Sunday until 2pm – or if you’re in the city, pick up some bagels at their satellite Bagel Station in the Shaw neighborhood.
