Earth Day falls on a Saturday in 2017 (for the first time since 2006!), which is why the staff of St. Louis Earth Day has decided to expand our festival to a two day event! This means that you, the attendee, will have two days worth of activities, food, drink, music, and booths to explore!
Both days will feature unique learning experiences and activities, including demonstrations by EarthDance Farms, fermentation demonstrations by Companion Kombucha (Kom Com), and Wings over Water from the World Bird Sanctuary (where birds of prey swoop over the Muny Grounds). Music and other entertainment will vary by day as well, so there will be plenty to see and do.
While we hope you’ll visit our event on both days, Saturday has extra-special programming to celebrate the birth day of Earth Day! Special programming includes:
1. An Art Bus, available for children to paint – the colorfully decorated bus will later be used in regular Metro bus commutes! This year’s
Metro Arts in Transit art bus is sponsored by
MSD – the theme of the mural this year is
rain gardens, whose beautiful flowers and grasses help to reduce the amount of storm-water sent through our city’s drain system.
An Art Bus will be available for tiny atendees to help paint
2. Earth Day Threads: attendees are encouraged to wear Earth Day swag to celebrate the first Earth Day by wearing peace signs, smiley faces, flowers, etc on hats, shirts, pants, scarves, tattoos, jewelry, and anything else that represents your love for Earth Day.
3. JOIA Spirit of Earth Day Jam will help kick off the birth of Earth Day celebration at 11:00am at Earth Day Stage.
4. Riverview Garden’s ROTC students will will perform The National Anthem with a Color Guard at the Community Stage at 11:00am.
We can’t wait to celebrate Earth Day with you at our first two-day festival!
