St. Louis Earth Day Festival-goers may have noticed a lack of the run-of-the-mill festival food at our annual party in Forest Park- no funnel cakes, cotton candy, corn dogs, or giant sodas.
“Why does St. Louis Earth Day hate fun,” you might be asking yourselves. We don’t hate fun here at St. Louis Earth Day, we love local foods and the local restaurants who sell them. Saint Louis has an abundance of unique and delicious restaurants. We love having the opportunity to provide a place showcasing their food.
Typical festival foods are homogeneous – they lack a sense of place and could be at any event. At St. Louis Earth Day, our vendors represent the city they serve.
Food vendors at The St. Louis Earth Day Festival are also distinct from average festivals in their packaging – nothing at St. Louis Earth Day’s festival is served in items that cannot be composted or recycled. With help from Recycling On the Go, the festival is a low-to-zero waste event!
The overwhelming majority of our food vendors are Green Dining Alliance certified, which means they are committed to the environment year-round: they don’t use Styrofoam, they recycle, they’re using efficient lighting and considering the impact of their ingredient sourcing. We’re proud of the restaurants and food vendors who show up every year at our festival – they help us to set the example for other events, showing that even with 50,000 people in attendance, we can have a fun, delicious, low-waste event!
